TCK Salmon Tournament

Thursday, May 21 and Thursday, July 23

The May 21 event is cancelled due to the COVID-19 “Stay Home Stay Safe” order — at this time we are planning for the July 23 event following required limits of four or less per boat and anticipating further changes to promote social distancing. Scroll down to learn more.

Sponsor to support children’s hospitals — and have a fun day of salmon fishing on Lake Michigan!

All net proceeds of our two annual Salmon Tournaments support pediatric emergency care at North Ottawa Community Health System (NOCHS), and Child Life programs at children’s hospitals in Michigan including Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

Tournament sponsors are assigned to professional charter boats for a morning of exciting salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. Each boat holds up to six participants, and sponsors can invite anyone they wish — family, friends, employees or customers. Sponsors can also support fishing opportunities for young patients.

Sponsorships must be received and all boat participants registered no later than two weeks in advance of event. Boats are arranged based on paid sponsor request whenever possible.

Boats Depart at 6:00 a.m. from Chinook Pier, Grand Haven. Coffee and donuts are available before departure. All participants must register before departing, and pick up their fish tags. Boats Return at 12:00 p.m. to Chinook Pier and tagged fish are weighed and processed. Lunch is provided, and a short program precedes the awarding of prizes. A Grand Prize is awarded for the largest fish in Sponsor and Patient VIP categories. Additional prizes are awarded by lottery using the fish tags.

Inclement weather:  Our charter captains make the call on Tournament morning if the weather is not suitable for their boat. Unless travel is unsafe, sponsors and participants should come to Chinook Pier. In the event the fishing is canceled, each set of participants may set up a separate day and time to fish with their assigned charter.

COVID-19 and Social Distancing:  Charters are limited to groups of four or less. Our July 23 event will observe social distancing, including staggered start and return, boxed lunches, on-board weigh-in with results and photos shared to Facebook, and prizes mailed to winners. To keep up to date with changes, join our Facebook event and sign up for our email list.

Grand Admiral
Earl O’Brien

This year we honor Earl “The Pearl” O’Brien, our founder and Grand Admiral, who spent his life creating opportunities for kids to enjoy sports and life, even if disadvantaged, disabled, or dealing with catastrophic disease. Earl passed away on November 4, 2019. [Obituary, and Grand Haven Tribune Article] Our tournaments this year will include special displays and presentations of our 15-year tournament history and the special impact that Earl had on our community and the world. He truly lived the Kiwanis mission of “improving the world one child and one community at a time.” [Donate in honor of Earl]
